"I could list everything that I love about this bathroom but it would take all day! Can honestly say that is a bathroom that I would love to have in my own home. A job very well done!"

2018 NARI Milwaukee RotY Judge

Award-winning primary bathroom remodel; Sheboygan, Wisconsin: The client bought this home, designed by Eugene Wasserman in 1958, because of its lakeside location and Mid-Century Modern style, but it needed updating. The original bathroom crammed a full and a half bath into a limited space, divided by a pocket door that blocked the lake view and made the space feel constricted.

Goal: The homeowner wanted to open the room up and put one luxury bathroom in place of the full and half baths that existed in the space. The vision was to take full advantage of the view of Lake Michigan from this room.

Vision realized: The two bathrooms were merged in order to fit all the elements desired for this room. A ‘floating’ vanity would line almost the entire length of the right wall. The bathtub would become the focal point, placed next to the window at the end of the room, showcasing the beautiful lake view. A walk-in shower with a place to stand and separate, heated bench with handheld shower is opposite the vanity.

Goal: Create a luxurious spa retreat that would assist an aging body.

Vision realized: Teak decking around the tub provides a surface to sit on in order to swivel into the tub for those with mobility issues. On the left wall, a walk-in shower with a heated bench replaced the old tub.

Mid-Century Modern Bathroom: Luxury in a limited space

Goal: Add something unexpected, but functional. Rather than an art nook, a fireplace was added for extra coziness during those cold Wisconsin winters.

Vision realized: Finding a small fireplace with a realistic burning log, as requested by the homeowner, was a challenge. The depth of the wall was limited. After a long search, a unit was found that perfectly fit within the available space and looked exactly as the homeowner wished.

Remodeling this room gave it a feeling of openness, showcased the lake view and added more elements than were originally there. It allows the homeowner to age in place in a luxury spa-like setting that incorporates their art collection and features a cozy fireplace and a walk-in shower with heated seating.

Timber Innovations worked hard to build the client’s vision and the NARI Milwaukee RotY (Remodeler of the Year) judges agreed — “Functionally, you absolutely listened to your clients wants and desires and created an amazing layout for them to age in place comfortably. I love the heated bench as well as the shower controls located next to the bench.”

This project won the following awards:

2018 NARI Milwaukee RotY Award for Residential Bathroom $75,001 to $100,000

2018 NARI Milwaukee Readers' Choice Award, sponsored by MKE Lifestyle Magazine

This Mid-Century Modern primary bathroom remodel was part of a larger remodeling project that merged the kitchen, living room and back porch into an award-winning entertainment space.
